March Book Club: The Goldfinch

goldMarch came along really quickly in my opinion, and since we ended last week with a book club finale, and it’s time for the next one! I’ve got a long list of books to read, and next up was NY Times Bestseller, The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt. It got a great review by another one of my favorite authors, Stephen King, so I figured it was worth a shot. He says,

The Goldfinch is a rarity that comes along perhaps half a dozen times per decade, a smartly written literary novel that connects with the heart as well as the mind….Donna Tartt has delivered an extraordinary work of fiction.”–Stephen King, The New York Times Book Review

Here’s the book jacket description to see if you’re interested: “Theo Decker, a 13-year-old New Yorker, miraculously survives an accident that kills his mother. Abandoned by his father, Theo is taken in by the family of a wealthy friend. Bewildered by his strange new home on Park Avenue, disturbed by schoolmates who don’t know how to talk to him, and tormented above all by his longing for his mother, he clings to the one thing that reminds him of her: a small, mysteriously captivating painting that ultimately draws Theo into the underworld of art”.

We’ll have a little discussion here at the end of the month to share our thoughts, so I hope you’ll read and join in, or share with friends who you know may be interested in reading this as well!
